    Sans remettre en cause le fait hautement probable que l?auteur de La Comédie humaine n?y ait pas fait figurer l?aluminium, une phrase de Balzac dans Modeste Mignon (1844) attire l?attention sur un mode d?imagination significatif, nourri du contexte scientifique et technique de la première moitié du XIXe siècle. Cette phrase fait allusion à la découverte par Kulhmann de la transformation de l?ammoniaque en acide nitrique, que Sainte-Claire Deville aurait également étudiée. L?évocation de cet « effroyable » acide s?inscrit dans un registre similaire à celui de l?évocation de l?aluminium analysées dans les articles précédents.
    
    Without questioning the highly probable hypothesis that the author of "The Human Comedy" did not mention aluminium in his work, in Modeste Mignon (1844) Balzac drew the reader's attention in an imaginative way, to the scientific and technical thinking of the first half of the 19th century. This phrase alluded to Kuhlmann's discovery of the transformation of ammonia into nitric acid, which was also studied by Sainte-Claire Deville. The mention of that "awful" acid is in a similar vein to that of the mentions of aluminium analyzed in previous articles.
