    Préface  : 
    " This publication has been compiled in Russian National Aluminium-Magnesium Institute (VAMI JSC) with assistance of the Institute Management and Head Experts. The textbook is including extensive information on the raw carbon materials (coal tar pitch and petrol coke), anode paste production technology, including firing and process control, design and construction of the refractory lining, preventive maintenance are also included. 
    The textbook is including the whole rodding shop description with the great variety of machines, the work stations and the apparatus, as well as anode rod designs and rodding procedure. In two last chapters our reader can find extensive information related to Soderberg anodes technology, including "dry" anode process, prebaked anode behaviour in the cell pots and anodes operation maintenance.
    The publication is based on the present-day International experience in carbon anodes production. We used numerous papers, brochures, booklets, etc., published in scientific and technical magazines, first of all, in "Ligth Metals" of the Minerals Metals and Material Society (TMS), "Tsvetnye Metally", etc. ..."
