    Tout musée possède et tient à jour un inventaire de ses collections. Document juridique, administratif et muséologique, il a pour but d'assurer la conservation administrative et de préserver l'identité des objets des collections. C'est dans cette dernière optique, entre autres, que l'inventaire de la Collection Jean Plateau / Institut pour l'histoire de l'aluminium  a été commencé. La consultation d'autres inventaires et de notices théoriques a conduit à faire des choix méthodologiques, que ce soit pour décrire les objets et leur fabrication, pour les documenter et les illustrer, ou encore pour gérer la Collection.

    
    
    

    Every museum keeps an inventory of its collections. This legal, administrative and museological document is used to record preservation work and protect the identity of all objects. The latter reason was one of the primary factors in the launch of the inventory of the Jean Plateau / Institut pour l'Histoire de l'Aluminium Collection. Consultation of other inventories and theoretical recommendations led to methodological choices on how to describe objects and their manufacturing, document and illustrate them and manage the collection.
