    L’histoire de la Société des prototypes de carrosseries légères, devenue Carindal en 1953 illustre la stratégie des producteurs de métal léger pour conquérir un marché : celui de la carrosserie industrielle.
    Créée conjointement en 1942 par les carrossiers et le comptoir de vente de L’Aluminium Français, Carindal sera liquidée et son activité intégrée à la société Cegédur en 1968 dans le mouvement général de restructuration de l’industrie française de transformation des alliages légers.
    Optant dans un premier temps pour un système de préfabrication inadapté aux caractéristiques du marché, la SPCL mettra au point, avec les procédés Carindal, une solution répondant aux exigences techniques et économiques des carrossiers. Le surcoût d’une carrosserie en aluminium par rapport à l’acier ou au bois est alors considérablement réduit ; une politique commerciale originale et offensive et originale permet à la société d’augmenter considérablement ses ventes sans cependant devenir un centre de profit : L’Aluminium Français privilégie, au travers de sa filiale spécialisée, la stratégie d’innovation technique et de pénétration du marché.

    
    
    

    The history of the Société des Prototypes de carrosseries légères (Prototype Lightweight Bodies Company), later to be renamed Carindal in 1953, illustrates the strategy of lightweight metal producers to conquer the market, that is the industrial body market. Co-founded in 1942 by the body makers and the sales branch of the L'Aluminium Français, Carindal went into liquidation and was absorbed by the Cégédur Company in 1968 during the general movement towards restructuration of the French lightweight alloy manufacturing industry. Opting at first for a pre-fabrication system that was unadapted to market conditions, the Prototype Lightweight Bodies Company (SPCL), using Carindal processes, later went on to perfect a solution to fill the economic and technical needs of body manufacturers. The extra cost of an aluminium body compared to steel or wood was considerably reduced; an original aggressive sales policy enabled the company to increase their sales considerably without, however, becoming a profit centre: French Aluminium favours a strategy of technical innovation and market penetration through their specialized subsidiary.
