    En 1959, Erman C. Fraze, fabricant d'outillage aux États-Unis, invente le principe de l'ouverture facile pour les emballages métalliques : boîtes pour les conserves ou boîtes pour les boissons carbonatées. Cette invention consiste à réaliser un fond de boîte détachable suivant une ligne préincisée, à l'aide d'un organe de préhension, constitué par une languette ou un anneau. La préincision est obtenue par déformation locale sans provoquer de déchirure ou de fissure dans le métal. Il s'agit de la technique de l'ouverture facile par rivet intégré. Après avoir déposé son brevet en 1962, il le céda à Alcoa pour en assurer la commercialisation. Dans le monde entier, pratiquement tous les grands producteurs d'emballage dont Cebal en ont acquis la licence. L'ouverture facile a constitué un événement très important dans le monde de l'emballage alimentaire. Cela s'est traduit par un véritable raz de marée de la consommation de l'aluminium pour cette application qui était inexistante dans ce domaine avant l'invention de ce type d'ouverture.

    
    
    

    In 1959, Erman C. Fraze, a tool maker in the United States, invented an easy-opening system for metal packaging: food cans or fizzy drinks cans. The invention involves making part of the end of the can detachable, along a pre-scored line, with a gripping device, consisting of a tab or ring. The metal is pre-scored by local distortion without tearing or splitting the metal. This is the easy-opening system with integrated rivet. After filing his patent in 1962, lie passed it on to Alcoa for marketing. Nearly ail the big packaging manufacturers worldwide, including Cebal, have acquired the licence to this system. The arrival of the easy-opening technique was a very important event in the world of food packaging, and caused a tidal wave of aluminium in this field which had been non-existent prior to its invention.
