    Cet article explique l’émergence de deux importantes innovations technologiques dans l’industrie automobile française pendant la période de l’Occupation : la voiture tout aluminium et la voiture électrique. En prenant comme base les écrits et les archives de leur concepteur, l’ingénieur Jean-Albert Grégoire, nous montrons que ces deux innovations clés ont pu surgir grâce à l’appui des grands fournisseurs de la filière automobile et à l’action d’un milieu d’ingénieurs modernisateurs engagés dans l’appareil d’État. En revanche, elles ont peiné à s’imposer chez les grands constructeurs en France et en Italie, du fait des routines et des barrières économiques et mentales au sein de leurs organisations. L’article conclut par deux perspectives de recherche permettant d’approfondir les pistes ouvertes en s’appuyant sur des archives françaises et étrangères jusqu’ici peu utilisées par les chercheurs travaillant sur l’histoire de l’industrie automobile et de l’aluminium.

    
    
    

    This article explains the emergence of two important technological innovations in the French automotive industry during the occupation of France. By taking as our basis the writings and the archives of their designer, the engineer Jean-Albert Grégoire, we show that these two key innovations came to the fore thanks to the backing of major suppliers to the automotive sector and the contribution of modern-minded state-employed engineers. However, these innovations met with reluctance from the major French and Italian carmakers, resulting from the routine practices and mental and economic barriers prevalent in their organisations. The article concludes by indicating new avenues for further research along the same lines, through French and foreign archives, which have hitherto been little used by researchers working on the history of the automotive industry and of aluminium.
